FUNDRAISING
The
fundraising committee has continued to work very hard during
the off season. Another garage sale was held over the winter
and two sausage sizzles. The first was on Saturday 10th July
and the second is planned for the 14 August 2010 both between
11.00am and 2.00pm at IGA Supermarket Cnr Randford & Campbell
Rds Canning Vale. So if you are in the area please drop in,
we would love to see you there.
The
committee has done a wonderful job in raising quite a substantial
amount of money in the past months through the many garage
sales and the selling of donated items through the Quokka.
PERTH
DINGHY SAILING CLUB 107th SEASON PRESENTATION NIGHT.
The PDSC Presentation
Night was held on the Saturday 22nd May 2010 at PDSC. Despite
a wintery evening over 120 people attended the evening. It
was a great evening over a three course meal to catch up with
fellow sailors and their partners, even though at times it
was difficult to recognise everyone out of their sailing gear
and in their semi formal attire. Trophies for all classes
sailed at the PDSC were presented on the night. Congratulations
to our Club Champion "First Sabre Season Sailor"
Bill Gillham sailing Aero as well as our runners up and other
race day trophy winners.

LATEST
SAILING NEWS - MARCH/APRIL 2010
Well
the seasons drawing to a close, with everyone still keen as
mustard to keep sailing. So it looks like some winter sailing
for the enthusiasts.
The racing at PDSC has been tight with everyone winning a
trophy. The fleet has been growing with 15 boats on the register.
Bill, Ray, Chris, Peter and Rob have been fighting it out
for the major placing’s every week with the rest of
the fleet just behind.
In the Club Championship three boats, Ray, Peter and Bill
have been fighting it out and it will go down to the wire.
With consistency the same three boats, plus Rob are in contention.

WELCOME
SABRE CUBS
Well
we have the Sabrette's (the Sabre Wives & Daughters) and
now we have Sabre Cubs. Terry “Sugar Bowl” Allen's grand children
are the first of our Sabre Cubs.
Rylie
and Kurtis looked fantastic at Koombana Bay in Bunbury decked
out in their Sabre gear designed by their mum Abby.

KOOMBANA
BAY YACHT CLUB - LONG WEEKEND FEBRUARY 2010
A small fleet went
down to Bunbury during the February/March long weekend. It
was a fun weekend and enjoyed by all Rob
Depiazzi took home the prizes during the weekend - Congratulations
Rob
On
the Saturday it was blowing easterly gusting up to 25 knots
with large waves and a long course. Sunday morning the wind
had dropped to about 10-15 knots and still easterly with a
shorter course and on Sunday afternoon the wind had dropped
again to about 10 knots. By Monday morning the wind had died
out.

AUSTRALIAN MASTERS GAMES 2010
Bill Gilham represented the PDSC at the 12th Australian Masters
Games held in Geelong VIC during February.
Sailing a hired Sabre he came third in the first race. Being
unknown from Perth they thought this can't happen so they
stitched him up after that, but he had a good time and learnt
a lot…maybe too much

SABRE
SAILING HAS STARTED IN WA
As
you would have seen on the website earlier, Sabres have begun
sailing in Western Australia with numbers dramatically increasing
over the past year.
The
Association is now registered as well as being affiliated
with Yachting Western Australia and very soon we should be
affiliated with the Australian Sabre Association.
We
are currently sailing from the Perth Dinghy Sailing Club located
at Matilda Bay on the Swan River.
We
held our inaugural AGM Saturday 29 th August and combined
the meeting with a welcomed visit from Phil Johnson (the National
Measurer). We had an excellent roll up of Sabre skippers,
who found Phil's visit very informative on all aspects of
the Sabre. Phil trained our WA State Measurer Robert Depiazzi
on how to correctly measurer our boats as well speaking at
the AGM. We would like to thank Phil for making the trip over
and thanks also to Mike Simpson for helping arrange the visit.
We
currently have 13 boats with 11 skippers, with interest growing
continually. Boat construction over the winter months has
been intense. 7 Boats have been constructed.
At the start
of the season in October we should have 10 boats definitely
starting, with the other boats joining the fleet as they complete
construction. To publicise the Sabres over here even further,
we are going to visit other yacht clubs opening days, envisaging
that they might start up their own fleets.
