Concavity of bow

Postby GuestMember on Thu May 03, 2007 12:05 am

I'm building another Sabre and seem to be having trouble keeping the bow shape to the 5mm max concavity. It tends to exceed this .
I have pulled the bow up without using wet towels to soften ply. Is this my mistake??
Any tips??

Cheers

Matt
What I would be doing is cheering. The putting will go above the waterline and have no effect on the boat shape which will now have a beautiful fine bow. In the old days this was done deliberately.

Hi Stephen
Thanks for the reply.
I couldn't quite get your message.

Sorry - doing it quickly at school. I meant putty but must be bgetting old. Do know of one boat that had such a big concave (deliberate) that they used balsa wood. I would use one of the super light fillers such as micro balloons. It is from experience all above the waterline.

Beware the "catch-all" clause in the building guide:

The measurer may disqualify your boat if, in his opinion, you have endeavoured to circumvent the rules laid down, so that you may gain an advantage either in construction, rigging or fittings outside the concept of the simple, one-design dinghy.
