Weight of a new Sabre hull

Postby Ryan Kirk on Fri Dec 02, 2005 1:37 pm

Hi all

Just a couple quick questions for anyone who has built a timber Sabre recently, What is the optimum weight before painting and adding fittings so one can achieve the optimum 41kg mimimum weight? Also how many coats of paint should be used and how much would it weigh?

Any answers would be great...

Cheers

From memory - mine was about 35.5 kg before any paint, fairing or fittings. Came in right on 41kg in the end.

The number of coats will depend on how smooth a finish you want. I did 5 undercoats and 5 top-coats - but with lots and lots of sanding between coats. (All undercoats and first 3 top-coats were done by brush; and I used 2 pack paint)
