Sabre sailors thrive
on wind and wine ...
Hello Sabre sailors
...
I am not sure that the subject line is supported by evidence
!!!! BUT – I hope I have your attention ... ?
The 2010/11 sailing season has started ... it’s time
to get involved with your club and the upcoming Sabre events.
How we know the season has started ... Humpybong YC had their
Opening Weekend last weekend, with an Open Day and day 1 of
sailing.
RQYS and CYC have their opening events this coming weekend,
and SYC the weekend after.
Thank you ...
Thank you to Fran Eastgate for representing the Sabre class
at the volunteer info day at RQYS last weekend.
Thank you to Luis and Clare at HYC for supporting the HYC
Open day. Also thank you to Anne Mussett and Sue who helped
with the class promotion.
Thanks to Alan Craggs and John Campbell who provided encouragement
to the sailors with their boats on display.
The Sabre Training Day was an excellent day of learning –
thank you to John Campbell for his preparation, notes and
instruction.
Thank you to Anne Mussett for her wonderful morning tea, and
to Sue and Anne for the lunch.
Measurement Day went well. More measuring will be conducted
through the season. Thank you to Rob Jackson and John C for
their time on this task.
FLY THE FLAG FOR SABRES AT YOUR CLUB ...
... make sure you
get your club membership up to date, make a season entry (if
available) and encourage your fellow Sabre sailors to dust
off their boats
... maybe visit another Sabre club to catch up with friends
The QSSA season calendar is included below. Let Sue Hextell
(shextell@webone.com.au) know if you are coming to HumpyBash.
Sue will be camping ... it saves on tolls!! ... and along
with the HYC guys is looking forward to a good weekend of
sailing ... remember .. entries can be made for just one day
...
PREPARE FOR THE QLD SABRE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ...
... it is only
two months away, start your campaign planning now.
Sabre
Training Day
Cleveland
Yacht Club on Saturday 28 August – the attached
flyer has
the details.
If you have trouble opening the flyer or have further questions,
please email me.
Registration: to register for the training day, send an email
to Susan Hextell, shextell@webone.com.au,
by 15 August.
Measurement
Day
the
first for the season, will be held on Sunday 29 August also
at CYC. This day is intended for the outgoing Measurer
to hand over the "tape" to the new measurer, make
a start on measuring boats and have follow-up discussions
on the previous days training. As there are a number of boats
to be measured (they can't be all done in one day), we need
to create a program of where and when boats will get measured.
Boats going to the Nationals or States will get first
priority and those that have not been measured before. All
boats sailing in Sabre events at least need to have their
sails and foils measured each year. If you need your boat
measured help us prepare a program by emailing the following
information to jscampbell6@hotmail.com
by 15 August:
Your boat number
Are you going to the Nationals or States?
Do you have a measurement certificate?
Do you need foils and sail measured this season?
Additional measuring can be done at a later date at Humpybong,
RQYS and Maroochy if necessary.

General
news and welcomes to members:
Sue Hextell and John Ludwig had a very pleasant sail
on the river at Maroochy last weekend – winter sailing
is a great way to unwind, or play around with settings etc.
This weekend there is Frostbite racing at RQYS on Saturday,
and CYC have winter races both days this weekend – so
join in with either if you can – details on respective
club websites.
Welcome
to Ken Day!! I am thrilled to let you all know that Ken has
bought Sabre 1602 and will be sailing at CYC.
Welcome Paul Hargan from northern NSW – Paul is building
a Sabre.
Good sailing,
C u at the wing mark,

Welcome
and winter sailing
I would like to welcome Peter Quinn to our fleet. Peter has
recently purchased a Sabre, and I look forward to seeing Peter
on the RQYS startline.
Well done to the sailors who have been braving the cold of
winter to sail:
• John Campbell won the Sabre Division at the recent
Chillfest Regatta, with Ian, Fran, Sue & Anne making up
the rest of the division
• Lea Foster travelled up this weekend and sailed at
the RQYS and CYC winter races
• CYC sailors on the water today were John N, Peter
S, Sue, Ken & Craig – unfortunately the wind as
very light
• RQYS sailors on the water yesterday were Fran &
Sue, and Robyn who loaned Ian’s boat for her first sail
in a Sabre
• MSC have a winter series – check the calendar
for dates
• I have heard that Luis from HYC is doing some yacht
sailing over winter
• Southport YC have a winter regatta 31July-1 August
(email
details)
Check the club websites for winter races (if you have trouble
with this, email me for links) – or – start planning
for the LCSC Allboats Regatta 21-22 August.
Good sailing,
Susan

Calendar
The
recent AGM included discussion of the 2010-11 calendar. Progress
with the calendar has been positive – see calender
for details. I have included links to club/event websites
where I can.
When the training day details are finalised, a flyer will
be sent round. As future dates are confirmed a revised version
will be sent and published on the QSSA website.
To assist preparations by the Qld contingent going to the
Nats in Adelaide, we are including the HumpyBash weekend (open
water experience) and the States in November (timed as a pre-Nats
peak).
Thank you to the CYC for hosting our States this coming season.
I hope we can make it a BIG weekend.
