Building and measuring
A new member is about to commence building a boat and is ordering ply from Tassie and spar sections. If anyone else would like to put in orders, to share freight, please contact John Campbell (jscampbell6@hotmail.com) asap. John will put you in touch with the new member.

There is a class rule change in progress removing the requirement for as rigid annual foil and sail inspection. The new rule will place the onus on owners to ensure measurement of new or refurbished gear is up to date. So, if you have new gear or have done significant refurbishing the old - please email John to make a suitable time for inspection/measurement.

Big River SC - imagine a pleasant weekend - sailing on the Clarence River
Camping overnight on the grassy surrounds of the Big River Sailing Club at Harwood. Sounds good? It is! Hard to find such a perfect venue, one of the best kept secrets of Northern Rivers sailing. Wide river sailing, friendly club with catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner, free camping overnight. The Single Handers Regatta - 29th-30th October - is an opportunity for you to join the growing local Sabre fleet and stake out our territory beside the Lasers and other single handed classes. Go on, take the plunge, travel to Harwood - you won't be disappointed!

24 July at Southport YC
Winter race at Southport
It was a real family day at Southport YC (Hollywell) for the Sabre fleet. On water racing we had Lea, Sue, Wendy and Dave.

We started the day with the now famous SYC (Hollywell) Big Breakfast. On shore was exciting with Dave and Sandi accompanied by their granddaughters and Anne Mussett visiting with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter (It was Anne's birthday and she was having a special outing just 2 weeks after her hip replacement). It was action stations for everyone with the grandchildren. Is this a new fleet growth strategy?

The sailors enjoyed the light SE breeze. Sue finished both races in 1st place, however not without challenges from Lea, Dave and Wendy. Wendy showed her skills sailing upwind and hugging the shore to avoid the tide. Dave was aggressive at the starts and made sure the girls did not rest on their laurels if ahead. Lea led for 2/3 of race two - WooHoo.

It was a great day to be on the water

The attached spreadsheet is collated info from local club websites on their winter sailing. Hope this helps you plan your sailing over the next few months. winter2011.xls

Sabre sailing is an extreme sport - even in winter!
The Southport YC winter series kicked off today (29 May) with two races. Four Sabres competed - Dave, Lea, Wendy and Sue. The women arrived early and had their boats rigged, so decided to engage in some extreme sport before setting sail :-)

The racing was just as much fun, with a 10-15k SE breeze for the windward return courses. Thank you to Sandi and Anne for photography and support on shore.

There are further winter races scheduled at SYC - 26 June, 10 July and 24 July - it is an 11am briefing.
