(Published September 2012)

I cant speak for all of NSW yet, but most of the Sabre activity in Sydney seems to be at Connells Point SC, located on the picturesque Georges River in Sydneys south. We are a fleet of ten or more dedicated Sabre sailors racing every weekend with some really close and exciting racing. We welcome any visitors or new sailors warmly. We have a great club Sabre that is ready to race on any given Saturday. Please contact me if your interested.

There are a few things we would like to try for the NSW Sabres in the 2011/12 season. We are planning a few "Exhibition Races" at various clubs around Sydneys south. Nothing too fancy, just a friendly race in the open class. Our aim is to promote the great attributes to young and old sailors alike, and to encourage the start of Sabre fleets in other areas. Unlike any other single handed class that comes to mind, wife can beat husband(pardon the pun) and grandmother can win against grandson...thats our aim. At CPSC our oldest sailor retired four years ago at the age of 80. I'm sure he was on performance enhancing drugs..his urine test, though, was clear..anyway..I believe sailing is the greatest family sport there is. Make no mistake either, the racing is fast pace and super competitive. This years national titles at Blairgorie in Victoria will attract well over 100 Sabres..big fleet racing at its best!!

Anyone that has any relevant Sabre information, members of any clubs in NSW that sail even 1 Sabre, please feel free to submit any information that will help promote the class. Lea Foster, our northern connection, sails up the Clarence River at Big River SC with a small fleet. She is doing some great work to promote the class up there.Hopefully we can all catch up soon. I'm new to the class so please excuse me if I have not mentioned your club. I have posted an open invitation on the forum for anyone wishing to join us at CPSC for a weekend of racing on March 3rd and 4th 2012. For more info check the forum..events.

As mentioned,we are planning the "Exhibition Races"..keep a lookout for dates/venues.These will include,Sydneys south,Sydney Harbour,Pittwater, and Lake Macquarie. We plan to take a spare boat with us to give at least one new invited sailor a taste of Sabre sailing. Please drop me an email if you want to sail in an "Exhibition Race",or have any ideas..we can move forward from there. I have also posted a list of CHEAP older Sabres for sale at CPSC..There has never been a better time to pickup your tiller extension and get back out on the water folks !!

We will slowly be updating the entire NSW Sabre website...its a huge job !! Anyone that can help out club reports etc..would love to hear from you..

All the best
