Sabre sailors beware! Former National and WA State Champion Scott Olsen has returned to Sabres this week.

After having his new YMS boat christened at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club on Saturday. He went out and demolished the competitive fleet with three easy race wins, even with a few new boat "teething issues"  - the mainsail that kept falling down throughout the races.

It was great to see him, wife Julie and children Henry and Clara back at the PDSC.

PDSC had its first club heat championship on Saturday. 14 Sabres took to the line with winds approx  5 - 12 knots.

On the start line the start boat end was was the place to be so 12 x Sabres went argy bargy "Discussions" were loudly heard and the banging of boats hitting each other.

Two hours later and just seconds apart Ashley Hood crossed the line first and was followed by Ian James (2nd) and Clayton Erwin (1st).

Ashley was lucky to win when he was T-boned on the line by a boat from the Signet class.

Yesterday Perth Dinghy Sailing Club held their Opening Day. We had 14 sailors on the water which made it the biggest fleet in attendance. After the official opening ceremony concluded the racing got underway in light to medium winds. A visiting Sabre sailor capsized on the start line, getting his race off to a good start! Ashley Hood took the lead and easily won the race, even though he had the wrong class course sheet taped to his boat.

Carl Girolamo finished second and newcomer Tony Carr finished third. Thanks to visiting sailors from EFYC - Pete Coop, Dave Quinn and Bruce Moorman for attending along with Chris Holyday from Maylands.

There could have been two more Sabres on the water but these sailors considered the free drinks and afternoon tea a much better option.

After the race it was great to see all the families coming down for a drink and a bite to eat.

Great weather and great hospitality made it a perfect opening day.
