    Hi readers,

About seven Qld sabre sailors are heading up to Lake Cootharaba this weekend 23-24 August for the LCSC Allboats Regatta, incorporating the Ancient Mariner Award.

The girls are renting a house (we need our luxuries), and the guys are staying cabin style at the hotel.

Phil Briggs is making special preparations to his boat and will be defending his title of Ancient Mariner he won two years ago. (He missed last year due to a knee injury.)

This weekends racing should be a great start to the season, and give us all some lake experience that will be of use when we return Easter 2009 to contest our State Championship. Here is a link to the LCSC website: http://www.lcsc.org.au/mam/

    Hi readers,

We had a great weekend of sailing at Lake Cootharaba. Six Sabres competed. On water we had light to fresh winds, mostly SW (typical August)! The event attracted 64 entries overall.

Here are the overall results showing Savre fleet placings are as follows:

Overall Place Skipper Club Series result R4 R3 R2 R1
    1 Susan Hextell RQYS 23 10 [10.00] 8 5
    2 Anne Mussett 27 12 [16.00] 9 6
    3 Kathy Green CYC 30 [14.00] 12 11 7
    4 Wendy Witt SYC 42 16 14 [16.00] 12
    5 Ian Brooke SYC 63 [25.00C] 21 20 22.00S
    6 Phil Briggs CYC 67 25.00C 20 [25.00C] 22.00F

Phil had a gear failure on Saturday – he pulled the mainsheet block off the floor of the boat – which meant he could not complete the Saturday races, and cost him the event Ancient Mariner award that he was defending.

Ian Brooke has been asking us hard questions – and is our Most Improved Sabre sailor. Ian competed with an injured toe sustained a week ago and still healing.

The Sabre girls had some excellent on water battles, with close racing in all races. there was a ‘yippee’ from Kathy when she got to the top mark in first place in one race. Well deserved.

Anne sailed consistently in the fresher winds. Their was a high level of determination all round, led by Wendy who remained focussed in all races. So nobody could afford to make a mistake.

Dinner at the Apollonian Hotel was a great reward at the end of the day, and a few wines were consumed as we recounted the day and generally had a good time.

    Overall, a great weekend,

    Sue
