    Hi Barry.

That sucks big time. I will be back at Christmas so will keep a good eye out. I will also email the Indented Head Yacht Club to put the word out.
The thief could check this site out so lets not give him too much info….

    regards John NT

    Hello Aten/ Allen

Thanks, yes it’s nice ply. I got it shipped up from Denham Marine in Tassie. It was fairly expensive but it’s Belgium made and is genuine British Standard not pretend. It’s easy to see that its good stuff as the face ply is thick so you wont sand down to the glue accidentally by rubbing too hard and I’ve only found one small void. A boat is built for a long time so I thought a little extra spent on the hull will be worth it down the track.

    Alan. Hello.
I will email you as I am now starting to ponder the decks and a little confused as to the desired method. I saw a website in Perth, (Boating Hardware ??) who had a unique method with pictures to help. All help on this step will be much appreciated !

Also, I’m wondering on what paint to use. All advice much appreciated.

    Regards John NT

Hi Murray , good to hear from you and thank you for your comments. It will be great to get back to Indented Head . I will definitely catch up to tune the new boat and check out your new one. I will be keen to get the younger ones into the club as well in the minnows. For now it’s head first into epoxy !

    Hi Aten.

Thanks for asking. I’m waiting on cedar STILL so I’m doing all I can before the wet season arrives in October. We are heading back to Geelong at Christmas so will hopefully be mixing it up with the Port Phillip locals sooner than expected.
Stringers and transom bits in this week (today). All bits have been hand cut on a saw horse as I have no real tools up here in NT.

Hi. Further to Aten’s comments you would need to consider the up lift on the racks when travelling at speed. I reckon you would also need to attach some timber stud to the racks you buy as the racks may be narrower than the boat. The mast and boom could be carried in a bracket that could be inserted into the centre case and another that uses the rudder pintles maybe ? I’m assuming boat is carried deck down of course. The trolley will be an issue. You may need to rig on grass or blanket.
    Cheers

    Thanks Aten,

Hopefully I haven’t double posted here as I had some trouble with the photo sizes. Yes I agree the home builder ( my excuse because I have no money !) should present on this site to encourage others to have a go and add to this wonderful class. I have owned 467,472, 282 and one other I think however it’s always been on my bucket list to home build. I do love the glass boats but they are out of reach financially at this stage.

More than happy to impart my limited build knowledge to other newbie builders.

Do people know that brown vinegar cleans resin brushes (BOTE COTE in my case). No nasty Acetone to poison yourself with.
Cheap home brand plastic containers (2 bucks for five containers) are great for mixing resin and glues. Just let them dry and gently crush the container all round to pop out a perfect replica of the original vessel leaving behind a fresh container to do it all again.

    Hi Murray,

Great to hear from you. I see your dread locks blew off on a power reach lol ! :)
I was mistaken I think, sorry, vic champ :)
I see guest member keeps people busy on here. Oh well :)
I will be down at some stage for a measure so I will take on the plastic fantastic then :) yeh I’m a little jealous but looking forward to completing mine. It was hard glassing the bottom panels today with Darwin humidity dripping onto the panels leaving white circles and that was at 8 30 am !
Anyway it’s full steam ahead until I run out of money :(
    Speak soon

    Hi Murray.

C’mon, you’re an ex impulse national champ not an average sailor ! Joking mate, I’m glad to hear you are all well and staying in the class. I’m up in Darwin and have just started building a sabre ( it will be my 5 the boat and I’ve sailed them for 30 years at Indented Head however it’s my first build). I will have to bring my new boat down for a home built vs mark 2 challenge :)
I agree people should stop debating and answer my construction queries :)

Thank you Harold. That is good advice. I will check at bunnings for those scrapers you mention. I agree on the resin comment in that you really only need to make the glass transparent and any extra is just waste/weight.
While I have you, have you had a chance to look at those front centre case bulkhead seat profile patterns ??
    Appreciate your help.
    Kind regards

    Thank you Aten.

I did some research last night and will use your suggestion however I will use bote cote which doesn’t exhibit amine blush negating the peel ply.

Thank you john l for your reply.
I would be very interested in your and members methods of building a light boat. I plan on at least ten millimetre fillets throughout both internal and external plus glass cloth seams and internal and external sheathing with 4 mm ply. What are your thoughts ?

    Thank you andymac

It’s funny you mention that. I was reading a few boat building sites that spoke of him so I emailed him yesterday and then he appears on the front page of the Australian ! Must be a sign :)
Anyhows i will follow it up today. I figure a good boat has to be built from quality material even if it’s a little more expensive. Thanks again for your reply.
