    hi all,

at the gippsland lakes yacht club we have about 2-3 kids sailing sabres nearly all the time. then we get about 2 kids sailing sabres in our sailing school & both of them come out & race with us. but sabres are the only off the beach monohull sailing at our club.

yeah if we could get the training weekends some where east of melbourne then there would be some of us coming because we are the biggest fleet racing east of melburne so if it could be a bit closer then some of us would come. because we have been talking about the training weekends & how it could help our fleet sailing & getting the kids on the pace but we never acted on it because it was in melbourne.

    hi peter,

that’s bad luck, it was a great regatta. We had 11 sabres 10 club boats & 1 vistior sail sunday & 10 on monday. Saturday was blown out so we didn’t get to sail bumer 😥 but that’s life.

Sunday was a nice day we had 1 back to back race in the afternoon, it’s was about 12 to 15 knots at times very up & down. The place getters in the 1st race was 1st 1658 F Bancroft Unfinished Business GLYC, 2nd 691 B Maskiell Speed demon GLYC & 3rd was 1521 Frodo T Kirby WLBC. The 2nd race died to about 8 to 10 knots, the place getters where 1521 Frodo T Kirby WLBC, 2nd 554 Rufred D Bacon GLYC & 3rd was 305 Pipit M Jefferis GLYC.

Then on monday we had our round the island race that was meant to be on saturday but was blown out so we sailed it on Monday morning, the wind was about 0 to 4 knots it was crap. We had a time limit of 3 hours that was set on saturday, because it was a afternoon race so we didn’t get all the way around. place getters were 1st 168 Fuss Pot M Simpson GLYC, 2nd 554 Rufred D Bacon GLYC & 3rd was 703 Pocket Maxi R Van Elden GLYC.

The results are on this website under race results easter home.vicnet.net.au/~glyc/ the monday race is not up yet or overall results. so hope to see some more next year

    hi all,
just got back from eden yesturday, great weekend. the only problem is that there were only 3 sabre’s on the saturday & then 1 on the sunday. not as many as some years, but great racing all the same.

saturday was light winds in the moring 0-5 knots, with all the sabre’s close together with a flying ant out in front. the race went for to long, 1 sabre bet the ant cross the line.

saturday afternoon again the wind was light about 5-8 knots, none of the sabre’s bet the ant.

sunday i was the only sabre but had a good race with the ant, the wind was light again about 5-10 knots. i had a good lead on the ant after the 1st lap but then all the other boats took my wind & the ant was able to catch me so we went around the top mark at the same time. then they were able to sail away from me down wind, but then i was able to get away in out of all the other boats & catch up to them but they cross 1st.

sunday afternoon the wind was 15 to 20 gusting to 35 at times, with a meter waves. the ant creamed me it truck up wind while i was trying to stay up right. they bet me by about a leg & half i was just glad when i got back to the club after the race. the ride home was fun though.

it was a great weekend at a great place to sail. hope to see more next year. if you want to see the reults go to the website http://www.twofoldbayyc.sailing.org.au

    Hi Ashley,

No we don’t run any races over x-mas, new years because we run Nationals then, but our last race before x-mas is 18th of Dec. Then after x-mas, new years our frist race will be 15th of Jan.

As i said in the championship form we would love to have the state titles at Paynesville & it would be great if we get 1 of the coaches to come down give us a training lession & maybe watch us race.

At easter we have a regatta racing from friday to monday so your more then welcome to come down & join in. I hope to see some melbourne boats come down at easter & race with us. We should have a divison of our own because we will have about 5 to 8 club boats racing.

But if you can’t come down for easter then your more then welcome to come down for the day & race with us we race every sunday up till the 18th of Dec, then start up again on the 15 of Jan & our season finsh on the 7th of may.

    Hi Fiona,
that’s great to here that there is going to be a divison for people to sail 2 up, it’s a great idea. It should get more kids into the class, i will not be coming to the states this year but a bit down the track i will.

Can u tell me when the states are meant to becoming east of melbourne next because at the Gippsland lakes yacht club we have 8 sabres sailing every weekend for a club race & we would love to have the sabre states here because we have a big fleet racing now.

i think sabre’s are the best because there are good numbers around australia. they are a lot easyer to sail for beginers, you really need like 3 or 4 years in the sport before you can take on a laser.

to sail a laser it is 1 of the hardest boats to sail where a sabre is 1 of the easest to sail
