    Hi all,
The Race 7 results and final scores will need to be amended for a couple of boats due to a protest result.
We expect to have the final results posted by Saturday evening.
The delay is due to travel commitments and consequential limited access for emailing them.

    Hi,
That is a very interesting question.
I recently competed in a regatta using an old ’92 vintage sail.
It looked way full, but damn I was surprised as I beat the blokes, and one of them had previously beaten me.
That said, I think that I am trimming my sail and adjusting my sailing better than I used to – that seems to be where the difference is.
SO …. an old sail can be a good sail – if you are able to set it and adjust it and modify your sailing to the wind and wave conditions, and also NOT makes tactical of handling errors. Many many variables!

An analogy: When driving in peak hour city traffic is it the most powerful car that arrives at its destination first?

    Hello sailors,

A further link has been added from the Qld Sabre site ‘Sailing on Moreton Bay’.

I hope you all find the information useful. I have included website sources as well as pdf file links, so that if the latter are a bit slow you can cut ‘n’ paste the link and do your own research.

If you are not familiar with the wind rose, I suggest you explore the BOM site and check out other locations apart from Moreton Bay. It is certainly an interesting comparison tool.

Don’t expect to be placing any further information unless it is of a more ‘official ‘ nature from the exec.

Remember entries need to be in REAL soon,

    Safe driving,

    Hi,

If you come in via Toowoomba you may end up paying a toll on part of that road into Brisbane – depends where you turn off.
If you come in via Warwick you can do the Beaudesert route and avoid tolls.

Personally I find the trip from Goondiwindi to Brisbane a REAL drag – its 100k limit in Qld (which seems SO slow after the NSW rural limit). As a consequence I prefer the coast road. Although there are some 80k stretches, it is overall pretty good, and the distance between towns makes for better planning for stops, and the rest areas are shady.

An additional bonus with coming up the coast is that once you get to ‘the border’ you are nearly here and that makes the trip much more palatable.

    All personal preferences of course.

By the way, if you have an etag it will work up here on the toll roads the same as in Sydney or Melbourne. I originally got one when I lived in Canberra (no toll roads) cause it makes travelling thru major cities SOOOO much easier.

Apart from the toll on the road from Toowoomba to Brissie, there is also a toll on the Gateway Bridge. But if you go over that on the way here you have overstood the mark!

    Hi all,

There are also some tips listed on the Qld Sabre website.
A few extra pieces of local advice will be added shortly.

    Hi guys,

I use the technique Matt outlined, with a slight modification.
I have the boat at a bit of an angle to the wind, and always attach the windward shroud and forestay, that way, when the mast is up and I walk around I don’t have to worry about a gust of wind blowing it over!
I do the same technique for lowering the mast.

Hi, thank you for posting the results.

    1. Towel rails: are they compulsory, or can an alternate device be used?

    2. Can the vang attachment to the mast be changed immediately?

    Thanks, Sue

    Thanks Mike.
I will keep the tools locked away until the decision is determined.

On the towel rail, well group think can be not a good thing. I have an approach to the outhaul that I would say is cheaper than any system, reduces to a minimum the wasted space between boom and main clew and is fully functional.

Vote 1 for rule changes. Vote NO to towel rails.

    Hello,

The ramp is concrete and there are rocks (not sand) around the launch area – so boots/sailing shoes are highly recommended.
Support crews should note this as well. They should pack their old old joggers or similar footwear.

In terms of risk of injury to legs, I would say that risk associated with sunburn is higher than risk wrt jelly fish. Leg covering to avoid the need for sunscreen is thus a stronger reason or covering up.

    Hi Eliza and Shane,
Your best bet would be to phone Peter Skinner the Qld Measurer. Peter can then explain and advise. His phone number is 07) 5590 4313.

    On Mike’s suggestion …
    1. Would this be a separate and additional document to the current National building notes?
    2. Would they be endorsed by the National Measurer?

    3. Cost … I would prefer to see an electronic document available from the National segment of the SSA website, downloadable for free by ANYONE, and only charge for hardcopy if requested.
    4. New members OR new boats … my opinion is that extra fees associated with registering a new boat/purchasing templates should be separate to the availability of building notes and measurement details

    5. Commercial boat builders constructing all fibreglass boats for the Sabre class should be able to provide a statement that the craft was built from an approved mould, avoiding the requirement for State Measurers to measure the ‘pop-out’ hulls. Measurement would then focus on fittings, spars etc and reduce time.

I hope my ideas are helpful as the class progresses the matter of measurement.

    Sue

PS If the rule changes are approved, WILL I STILL HAVE TO USE A TO USE A TOWEL RAIL???
